The fort Chapora Goa India was constructed in 1717 by Adil Shah of Bijapur. The fortress was mainly erected to guard against the Hindu raiders. It was ruled for many decades and was also besieged two times by Bhonsle in 1739 A.D and Sambhaji (Shivaji’s son) in 1683 A.D.
In 1741 A.D, fort Chapora India was occupied by the Portuguese, and it was reconstructed during the Portuguese period. The fort also underwent serious repairs by the Portuguese rulers, and they added several features, including bastions and a tunnel.
The location of fort Chapora lets the visitors enjoy some of the best panoramic views. There used to be a church inside the fort that was dedicated to St. Anthony. The architect of the Chapora Fort used the natural form of the hills to the uneven outer wall. The entrance gate of the fort is very small. The cannons within the fort are organized in all directions for attacking the raiders.
