Air India Airlines

About Air India (AI)

Founded in 1932 as Tata Airlines, Air India (AI) is the oldest airline of India. The carrier was founded by JRD Tata and by then, the routes were only limited to Bombay, Karachi, Bellary, Ahmedabad and Madras. However, 7 years later routes were extended to other cities within the country.

The carrier was transformed into a public company in 1946 and the name was changed to Air-India Limited. And in 1948, Air India was set to fly internationally and that is how Air-India International was launched. Also, with the boom of the Internet and to stay in competitive searches, the hyphen was removed from the name in 2005 to set off Air India.

The star alliance has headquarters in the heart of India, Delhi. The Air India office is located at Airlines House, 113, Gurudwara Rakabganj Road, Sansad Marg Area, New Delhi.
