Built in 1612, Sinquerim Fort<\/a> is located about 18 km from Goa’s capital. It is one of the most popular tourist spots in North Goa, known for its rich history and pretty views. The fort extends from the upper part of Aguada Fort and is famous for its nearby beautiful beaches.
Sinquerim Fort has two main sections: one is the bastion, & the other is the upper area, which is surrounded by walls. The fort was constructed by the Portuguese to protect Goa from the Dutch & the Marathas. It stands about 5 meters tall & features a 13-meter-tall lighthouse connected to it. There are around 79 mortars along the walls of the upper fort. The lower part of the fort housed Portuguese ships & served as a safe dock.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
